Description
A simple, cozy Christmas side of tender peas and pearl onions coated in a warm, creamy sauce.
Ingredients
2 cups frozen peas
1 cup frozen pearl onions
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, simmer the frozen peas and frozen pearl onions over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until just tender, then drain.
In the same pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a smooth paste.
Slowly whisk in the milk and cook 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Stir in the peas and onions, then season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg.
Warm through for 1-2 minutes until creamy and well coated.
Notes
If the sauce thickens too much, whisk in 1-2 tbsp warm milk.
