Description
This homemade sloppy joe recipe features seasoned ground beef simmered in a rich, sweet and tangy sauce, served on soft toasted buns for an easy family dinner.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 hamburger buns
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
2. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
3. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
4. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.
5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and saucy.
6. Spoon the mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve warm.
Notes
Lightly butter and toast the buns in a skillet for extra flavor and texture.
