Description

This heart cake is a charming, delicious dessert perfect for romantic occasions. Soft vanilla sponge layers, creamy pink buttercream, and sweet strawberry accents come together in a show-stopping centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup buttermilk

Pink gel food coloring

1 cup buttercream frosting (homemade or store-bought)

Optional: strawberries, pastel candies, sprinkles

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan.

2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.

5. Alternate adding dry mixture and buttermilk to the creamed butter, mixing just until combined.

6. Stir in a small amount of pink food coloring for a blush tint.

7. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to cool completely.

9. Frost with pink buttercream and decorate with strawberries, candies, or sprinkles as desired.

10. Slice and serve with love.

Notes

You can substitute buttermilk with ½ cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice.

Try chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting for a richer flavor twist.

Store covered at room temperature for 1 day or refrigerate up to 4 days.
